Beechmount is a residential home without nursing, situated in Chelston, a pleasant residential area of Torquay in the county of Devon, which is housed in an elegant period building.
The detached Victorian Villa provides spacious and homely communal rooms with a large, landscaped, sensory garden feeling very much like a Country House. All bedrooms are fully furnished, complete with a television and all rooms have en-suite facilities. There is a lift between floors, and a stairlift on the short flight of stairs on the first floor, to facilitate access for the less mobile. The sensory garden has been fully landscaped and contains interesting and stimulating features such as wind chimes and a water feature, along with pleasant seating areas.
Beechmount provides professional and high-quality care, combined with a warm, relaxed informality.
The home is located close to many local amenities which add considerably to the experience of living at the home. These include pastoral care from St Matthews Church, Torre Abbey Catholic Church, and other faith groups, and healthcare professional from the care home support team at the nearby Chelston Hall Surgery. Local shops are in the High Street, a short walk from the home, and there are parks and outdoor spaces close by, including Torquay Beach and Torre Abbey Sands.

I’m Charlie Knight, and I’ve been on quite the journey at Beechmount over the past six years. I started here in September 2018 as a healthcare assistant and worked my way up to registered manager in 2022 – it’s been an incredible ride learning from the fascinating people I’ve had the privilege to meet, from teenagers to centenarians.
My 14 years in care have taken me from people’s own homes to supported living facilities, and now to our beautiful Victorian villa in Chelston, Torquay. What sets Beechmount apart? Those stunning original features – the stained glass windows, ornate tiles, and iconic bay windows with breathtaking panoramic sea views toward Torre Abbey.
We’re not just a workplace here; we’re home to 23 residents who are at the heart of everything we do. Our dedicated team (some with us for many years!) works tirelessly to move away from outdated care stereotypes and create a genuinely empowering, happy environment.
From the moment you enquire about joining our Beechmount family, we tailor everything to the individual – their preferences, choices, and life history shape how we provide care.
When I’m not at Beechmount, you’ll find me exploring Devon and Cornwall’s incredible walks and beaches with my young Cocker Spaniel, enjoying family time, tackling home renovation projects, or challenging anyone who dares to a game of pool!
